Taking Back Control: A Manifestation Meditation for Misfits
Let’s get real, misfits. We live in a world that often tries to tell us who to be, what to want, and how to live. It’s messy, chaotic, and more importantly inauthentic. But if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s this: the moment you decide to step into your own power, you stop playing by their rules and start writing your own.
That’s where this manifestation-meditation exercise comes in. It’s not about perfection or pretending the world hasn’t been unfair to you. It’s about saying, “This is where I’m at. I accept it and I am taking back control.”
So grab your favorite deck, light some palo santo, and let’s get out dream life going.
Why Control Matters
Control doesn’t mean micromanaging every little thing. It’s about becoming the captain of your own ship—weathered sails and all. It’s about embracing the parts of yourself you’ve avoided, owning the narrative you’ve been running from, and taking a hard look at what’s holding you back.
Here’s the truth: No one else is coming to save you. That sounds harsh, I know. But when you realize you’re the one holding the wheel, the world starts to look a little different.
The Taking Back Control Meditation
Find a quiet space. Sit down, stand up, lie in bed—whatever works. This is your journey, after all.
Step 1: Ground Yourself
Close your eyes. Take a deep breath in through your nose while counting to four. Hold it for a count of four. Exhale through your mouth on another count of four. Hold that again for the 4th count of four. Repeat until your shoulders feel a little lighter and your mind a little quieter. This is called box breathing.
Step 2: Visualize the Chaos
Imagine yourself on a ship in the middle of a storm.
You can barely see ahead of the ship as the rain blinds you. Water from every direction is seeping through your outer layer of clothes, splashing onto you and dripping down your neck and back. Socks are soaking wet.
Waves crash, the wind howls, and everything feels out of control. You’re scared as you feel completely helpless against the current of the storm. Yet, you’re the only one on the boat. You can’t run to anybody for help.
It’s just you and the storm.
Let yourself feel the fear, the anger, the helplessness.
Step 3: Find the Captain’s Wheel
Now imagine walking up to the wheel. It’s abandoned, spinning wildly. Wrap your hands around it. It feels steady, solid, warm. Breathe. Say out loud (or in your mind):
“I am the captain of my ship, Master of my fate”
Step 4: Set a New Direction
As you begin to steer the ship, you muster up every inch of determination and faith you can. You can start seeing the ocean ahead more and more. Suddenly, you notice the storm beginning to calm. The waves smooth out, the wind softens. The sky clears, revealing a horizon filled with light. In your mind, decide what direction you want to go.
Journal Prompts for Reflection
Once the meditation is complete, grab your journal and explore these questions:
-
- What’s one part of my life I need to take ownership of?
-
- What’s one area where I’ve been giving my power away?
-
- How can I rewrite the narrative I’ve been living by?
Using Tarot to Dig Deeper
Pull three cards to guide you further:
-
- Card 1: What am I resisting?
-
- Card 2: Where can I reclaim control?
-
- Card 3: What energy will help me lead my life?
Trust me, the cards won’t hold back. They’ll tell you exactly what you need to hear—no sugarcoating.
Own It, Misfit
Taking back control isn’t about becoming someone you’re not. It’s about embracing every messy, brilliant part of who you already are. It’s about stepping up, even when it’s hard, and saying, “I’ve got this.”
The universe loves a rebel who knows their worth. So take the wheel, steer your ship, and watch as the magic starts to unfold.
The stars are cheering you on. Let’s get to it.
